VCE Course 考试

VCE, the Victorian Certificate of Education, is one of the certificates Victorian students get after satisfactory study of Year 11 and 12 and before pursuing tertiary education. The study of VCE normally takes 2 years, throughout which several subjects are chosen by students and tested both internally (in school) and externally (through VCAA, Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority). Each subject consists of 4 units of study and each unit is covered in one school semester. Students are required to successfully complete a minimum of 16 units, out of which 3 units of English is compulsory, in order to graduate with the VCE. To be qualified for university entrance, on the other hand, an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) is needed. It demands the completion of 4 Unit 3 and 4 sequences that must include one sequence of English subjects. The ATAR points are scaled each year regarding not the difficulty of each subject, but student’s ranking that genuinely reflect one’s performance amongst all competitors. Students need a minimum VCE score of 30 to be qualified for application of a Bachelor’s degree.

EAL, also known as English as an Additional Language, is the VCE curriculum for all Australian students whose first language is not English. There are 4 Units of EAL courses throughout Year 10-12, out of which the result of the last two units (Unit3, Unit4) will be calculated into your final ATAR score. EAL is considered one of the biggest struggles for quite an amount of students due to its high requirements in reading, writing, comprehending and expressing, which are all covered in the professional coaching support from Go Sun Education

Maths 数学科目

Mathematics is one of the most popular electives in VCE curriculums, especially for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) inclined students who may consider it a preparation for university study. There are three options in the group of Maths subjects: Further Maths (FM), Math Methods (MM), and Specialist Maths (SM), usually recognized as in ascending order of difficulty.

FM focus on Data analysis and Recursion and financial modeling as cores, acting as an accessible subject for almost all students. It has relatively lower workload and is recommended for students who have no further interest in more theoretically complex mathematical concepts. Therefore, FM is a quite competitive subject where it is possible to get scaled down regarding your ATAR scores.

MM features a variety of math methods to be used in theoretical and realistic contexts, including algebra, calculus, differentiation, statistics, etc. Due to its increasing difficulty, Unit 1/2 in Y11 where basic concepts and formulas are introduced is essential for developing a solid foundation in Y12. It is necessary to devote to questions and practices to ensure ideal outcome in this subject. This is one of the most popular selection of Chinese students as it is found to be serving as an introduction to university-level STEM courses.

SM entails even higher levels of understanding in mathematics, containing specialized knowledge that builds upon assumed knowledge from MM, namely Calculus, Complex Number, Vectors, Circular Functions, Coordinate Geometry, Kinematics and Dynamics, Probability and Statistics, etc. According to VCAA, students who intends to study SM have to finish MM or do it simultaneously as a pre-requisite. Abstract and distressful for many, this is one of the courses that almost always get scaled up in ATAR scores.

Chinese Mandarin

First Language (CFL), Second Language (CSL) and Second Language Advanced (CSLA). If a student have had more than 7 years of education in a school where Chinese is the medium of instruction, they are eligible for CFL only. If they have had less than 7 years of above-mentioned education and their highest level of education is no greater than the equivalent of Year 7 in a Victorian school, they are eligible for CSLA. Only students who has studied for less than 12 months or lived less than 3 years in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, are eligible for CSL. Most Chinese students will choose one subject as all Mandarin subjects get scaled up by 4-12 marks. It is sometimes a tricky subject that students should take intensive training in since being a native speaker does not necessarily entails high scores in tests.

Here in Go Sunshine Education, we have proudly produced the Early Childhood Language Programs which allows children to integrate into the foreign language environment, engage with professional experienced language teacher and develop their own system of languages without any conscious feeding of tedious knowledge points.
